Ultrasonography of the abdomen shows a well-defined, solid, hypoechoic lesion in the pre-aortic region measuring approximately 5 × 3 cm. The lesion shows vascularity on color Doppler imaging. It encases the major vessels, producing the sandwich (hamburger) sign. Contrast-enhanced CT scan of the abdomen shows a homogeneously enhancing soft tissue mass in the retroperitoneum encasing the aorta, inferior vena cava, renal arteries, inferior mesenteric artery and the aortic bifurcation. A similar lesion is also noted in the mesentery, with mesenteric vessels coursing through it.
