Contrast enhanced MRI of the brain shows enhancement of the smooth , diffusely thickened dura around the cerebral hemispheres. The cerebral veins are congested. There is sagging of the midbrain with a decreased mammillo-pontine distance that measures 4.1 mm (normal ~5.5 mm). There is crowding of structures at the foramen magnum with effacement of the subarachnoid space.
