A 50-year-old man came with a tender swelling over the medial aspect of the proximal phalanx of the right middle finger. Movements at the interphalangeal joints were painful. The overlying skin was shiny and erythematous. The patient gave a history of prick by a thorn at that area three weeks ago.
Radiographs of the right hand show a soft tissue swelling over the medial aspect of the proximal phalanx of the right middle finger. The underlying bone shows cortical irregularity and medullar destruction. There is thin periosteal reaction.
