A two-year-old girl was brought with short. paralyzed lower limbs. On examination the lower limb reflexes were absent. The mother had a history of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus prior to conception.

MRI of the spine shows absence of the sacrum and coccyx below S1 level. The truncated blunt spinal cord is seen ending at the D11 vertebral level. T2 hyperintensity is observed in the central portion of the spinal cord, indicating syrinx formation.
