A pregnant woman came for a routine first trimester obstetric ultrasound evaluation
Ultrasonography shows a single intrauterine fetus. The fetal cranial vault is not seen; the ossified skull bones above the level of the orbits are not seen. The fetal head shows irregular lobulated echogenic soft tissue in the cranial region representing exposed brain tissue. The normal smooth rounded contour of the fetal skull is absent.
