A 22 year old man came with intermittent pain and swelling in the right submandibular region since three months. There was an increase in the severity of the pain since three weeks.
Ultrasonography of the right submandibular region shows a linear, hyperechoic foreign body measuring 2.2 cm in the right submandibular gland. The gland is bulky and mildly hypoechoic. The duct is normal and is undilated.
The foreign body was a twig of grass. The patient was chewing on a piece of grass and a piece broke off and got lodged in the duct of the submandibular gland. Sialoendoscopy was done and the foreign body was removed with placement of a stent.
