A 16 year old girl, known to have Hansen’s disease, came with complaints of deformities of both the hands since one year.

There is resorption of the terminal phalanges and autoamputation of the distal and middle phalanges of the right index finger. Similar , less prominent changes are seen in multiple other digits. The bone density is near normal.

Hansen's disease is named after Norwegian physician Gerhard-Henrik Armauer Hansen who, in 1874, discovered the Lepra bacilli, thus disproving the hereditary affliction theory.
