There are symmetrical T2/FLAIR subcortical white matter hyperintensities in the frontal, parietal and temporal lobes bilaterally and in the lentiform nuclei , thalami , dorsal midbrain and pons.

The patient has Kayser Fleischer rings in both eyes.The urinary copper was increased and serum ceruloplasmin decreased.
The disease is named after the American-born British neurologist, Dr. Samuel Alexander Kinnier Wilson who, in 1912, composed his doctoral thesis on the pathologic findings of "lenticular degeneration" in the brain associated with cirrhosis of the liver
