Fahr was not actually the first to describe this condition. Delacour recognized brain capillary "ossification" as early as 1850, and Bamberger described similar findings in 1855. Some historians argue the eponym is a misnomer, given Fahr's relatively late contribution to the literature on this specific pathology.
