A 36-year-old woman came with lower abdominal pain since seven days. There was history of a previous caesarean section.

Transvaginal ultrasonography shows a single gestational sac embedded at the previous scar site in the lower anterior wall of uterus. There is fetal cardiac activity The CRL of 13.3 mm corresponds to a gestational age of seven weeks and four days. The myometrium is thinned out and measures 0.2 cm with an empty cervical canal. There is corpus luteum in right ovary.

The name "cesarean section" is popularly linked to Julius Caesar, but this is likely a myth, as his mother lived and he wasn't born by it; the name more likely comes from the Latin verb "caedere" (to cut) or ancient Roman laws (Lex Caesarea) requiring removal of infants from dead mothers for burial, with the operation becoming known as the "cesarean operation" from the laws.
