Named after Sir David Percival Dalbreck Wilkie, a Scottish surgeon, who in 1927, provided a comprehensive description of this disease in 75 patients despite it being first mentioned by Carl von Rokitansky in 1842. The eponym Wilkie's syndrome was first used in 1948.
