The frontal and lateral radiographs of the chest show a soft tissue opacity in the superior mediastinum surrounding the left main bronchus causing smooth widening of the right paratracheal stripe - obliterating of the retrotracheal clear space. There are few well-defined nodules in the right mid and lower zones. There are no calcifications or cystic areas within the mass. Contrast enhanced CT scan of the chest shows heterogeneously enhancing circumferential thickening of the thoracic esophagus with proximal dilatation. Loss of fat planes is evident with the carina, both the main bronchi and pulmonary artery. Enlarged, heterogeneously enhancing lymph nodes are seen in the pre-tracheal, subcarinal and right hilar regions. Variable sized, heterogeneously enhancing nodules are noted in both the lungs.
