A 26 year old pregnant woman, G1P1, came at 19 weeks and 3 days of gestation for an anomaly scan
On ANC ultrasound examination (top) , a closed, skin covered neural tube defect is seen in the occipital and high cervical regions with herniation of cisterna magna. No neural element is seen herniating through the defect. The defect in the occipital bone measures 0.75 cm.
Frontal and lateral radiographs of the abortus show abnormal curvature (kypholordotic deformity) of the upper cervical spine with agenesis of the posterior elements.
The sonogram of the abortus (bottom) confirmed the findings of the antenatal scan
