A 73 year old woman came with complaints of pain in and distention of the abdomen since two weeks
The plain radiograph of the abdomen shows an abnormally dilated large bowel loop in the left iliac region and right hypochondrium extending upto the left hypochondriac region. There is no air in the rectum. A few small bowel loops in the pelvis are mildly dilated. The CT scan shows twisting of the sigmoid colon along its mesentery with a closed loop obstruction of the proximal descending colon.
