Residents' Musings

Nostalgia

Yogeshwari Deshmukh

Yogeshwari was a resident in this department between 2005 and 2007,  After a recent  (March 2025) visit to the hospital and the department  to attend a conference, she wrote up the following thoughts.

--------------------------------

Dear Ravi Sir,

It was such a good feeling to revisit KEM and listen to your pearls of wisdom

My heart is still lingering in the corridors of KEM.

I'm so glad I decided to come from Pune—it felt like reliving those golden days of residency. Hard to believe 20 years have passed because, for a while, it felt like nothing had changed. The department, the canteen, the corridors, No. 10, Milan, Aditi… every corner brought back a flood of memories.

The best part? Neither the places nor the people have changed much.

Met so many seniors, and it was as if time had stood still—the same jokes, the same unending KEM stories. It wasn’t just a reunion; it was a bridge across two decades, taking us right back to where our radiology journey began.

Some things in KEM have evolved, but others remain unchanged—the sight of patients waiting, helpless relatives pulling trolleys, the quiet resilience in the air.

It felt like everything has changed, yet nothing has changed.

As I walked away, my heart was full—of nostalgia, gratitude, and the bittersweet realization that time moves on, but some bonds remain timeless.

Thank you for being part of that bond.

I am grateful to God for having met you in my younger days, you have ignited this feeling of empathy for patients and that has shaped me in whatever I am today as a radiologist.  I guess it makes me feel better than my patients.
