On ultrasonography of the right thumb, there is edematous thickening of the abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis tendons. A pretendinous hypoechoic halo is there suggestive of subcutaneous edema.

De Quervain’s tenosynovitis is named after Fritz de Quervain (1868–1940), a renowned Swiss surgeon who first identified and described the condition in 1895.
